Melnychenko to pass recordings on Scherban case to foreign security services

A former employee of the State Guard Department of Ukraine, Mykola Melnychenko, has said that if the Ukrainian side is not interested in his recordings on the murder of Ukrainian MP Yevhen Scherban, he is ready to pass them to foreign security services. "If Ukraine is not interested in my recordings, I will pass them to the FBI and Israeli security services," he told the Segodnya newspaper.

The name of Oleksandr Milchenko, nicknamed "Matros," who was involved in Scherban's murder and mysteriously died after returning to Ukraine from Hungary, allegedly appears on the recordings.

"A lot of information is recorded on the tapes available to me that sheds light on this crime. All circumstances of this crime were reported in detail in the office of [former Ukrainian] President Leonid Kuchma, in particular, about those who ordered and executed the murder, and how money was transferred," Melnychenko said.

Earlier, Melnychenko said that he was ready to provide information on the killing of MP Yevhen Scherban to his son, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine and the lawyers of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is suspected of involvement in this crime.

In 1996, MP Scherban was shot dead by a group of people in Donetsk airport upon his arrival from Moscow. As a result, the MP, his wife and a mechanic were killed. A flight engineer later died in hospital due to a gunshot wound to the neck.

At a press conference on April 4, Scherban's son, Ruslan, said that he had passed to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine documents on the possible involvement of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko and former Ukrainian Premier Pavlo Lazarenko in the murder of his father.
