You're reading: MP Labunska’s bill ‘tries to find middle course in Tymoshenko case’

Independent lawmaker Anzhelika Labunska has said that her bill on treating convicts abroad is an attempt to get the authorities and opposition to meet half way on the issue of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, her press service has said.

“The resolution of Yulia Tymoshenko’s case is life-changing for the whole Ukraine,” the press service quotes the MP as saying.

“Now our main task is to sign Association Agreement with the European Union in Vilnius. That’s why a middle course has to be found on the issue of the treatment of Yulia Tymoshenko – a compromise that will be supported by the two camps in parliament: the authorities and the opposition.”

“I’m a pro-European politician, I can only see the future of our country in the deepening of cooperation with the EU, and the signing of the agreement is a step towards such cooperation. That’s why my bill is an attempt to (achieve a compromise) for Verkhovna Rada MPs.”

As reported, Labunska submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the possibility of treating prisoners abroad if they do not fully recover after one year of continuous inpatient care in a hospital outside penal institutions. Besides, this document also offers the court to simultaneously take a decision to exempt such person from punishment due to their illness.
