You're reading: NATO secretary general hopes for responsible approach by France to Mistral delivery to Russia

Tallinn -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Nov. 20 that he believes that France and other members of the alliance are able to treat the issue of military hardware sales to other countries responsibly.

Speaking at a press conference in Estonia, Stoltenberg said that this issue also concerned the Mistral-class helicopter carriers built by France for Russia.

This principle also applies to the Mistral ships, as well as their sale to Russia by France, he added.

All sales of military hardware are a matter for the governments of NATO member countries, not the alliance itself, he said.
