You're reading: Oliynyk: Regions Party can’t foresee results of gas case against Tymoshenko

Regions Party MP Volodymyr Oliynyk has said that it is difficult to foresee the ruling of Kyiv's Pechersky District Court on the gas case against Ukraine's ex-Premier Yulia Tymoshenko.

"It [the court] has three options: conviction, acquittal or additional investigation. No one can forecast what the judge’s decision will be," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

According to Oliynyk, in the case of conviction, under the legislation, a convicted person has no right to run for election.

The MP added, "if it is an acquittal, of course the consequences will be different, and if the case is sent for additional investigation, then a new investigation would start, after which court hearings will be held until a ruling is issued."

Oliynyk also forecast the further fate of the Batkivschyna Party, saying, "it will break apart sooner or later."

He added that, in fact, the party does not exist, because a party has to be based on an ideology, while Batkivschyna is based on a person: of there is a leader, the party exists, but if there is no leader, there is no party.

Oliynyk noted that processes that are not aimed at unity are taking place in the opposition party. For instance, some members of the party are conducting their own activities and separate movements are appearing inside the party.
