You're reading: Onopenko not going to resign

The head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Vasyl Onopenko once again said that he was not going to resign.

"My position is that of a statesman, I’m not going to resign," he told reporters after the presentation of his book on Tuesday.

Onopenko also recalled his conversation with President Viktor Yanukovych, who he then said he did not want the judge’s resignation.

As reported, Onopenko strongly criticized the restrictions of the powers of the Supreme Court of Ukraine as a result of the judicial reform in Ukraine and the transfer of the court’s buildings to the Higher Specialized Court for Civil and Criminal Cases.

However, he said that he would not resign and would "fight for the independence of the judicial system" after the judicial reform.
