The parliamentary opposition will try to prevent newly elected Verkhovna Rada human rights commissioner Valeria Lutkovska from taking the oath, Verkhovna Rada Deputy Speaker Mykola Tomenko has said.

"As for the human rights commissioner, today, on behalf of the opposition, we filed an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada chairman to create a respective commission that would check the legality of the vote and the legitimacy of the election of a new Verkhovna Rada commissioner for human rights. The issue concerns serious violations," he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

As reported, Lutkovska was elected as Ukrainian parliament commissioner for human rights on April 24, with 252 MPs voting for such a decision.
