The Ukrainian opposition is pushing for an immediate meeting with President Viktor Yanukovych to discuss the political crisis in Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Arseniy Yatseniuk of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense faction has told reporters in Kyiv.

"The opposition is demanding an immediate meeting with the president on three key issues of the internal political crisis in Ukraine," he said.

The opposition wants to discuss the 2012 parliamentary elections.

"We are demanding that attempts to falsify the election law be stopped," he said.

The opposition accuses the Regions Party of "rewriting the law so that the president could secure a majority in the next Verkhovna Rada."

Another issue the opposition intends to bring up during a meeting with Yanukovych is a Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.

The president and the government must say clearly what shape this agreement will take, Yatseniuk said.

The opposition also intends to clarify when the charges brought against ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and ex-interior minister Yuriy Lutsenko will be decriminalized, he said.

The opposition demands that Tymoshenko and Lutsenko be allowed to participate in the 2012 elections.

Yanukovych, who was in the United States on a working visit from September 19 to 22, is planning to visit Russia on September 24.
