You're reading: Party of Regions candidate wins Odesa mayoral race

The Party of Regions candidate for Odesa Mayor Oleksiy Kostusyev has been declared the winner in his contest with the incumbent Eduard Hurvits, nominated by the Front for Change Party.

Results of the mayoral race released on Nov. 5 by the Odesa city election commission gave Kostusyev 166,281 votes (50.8 percent) and Hurvits 100,762 votes (30.8 percent).

Kostusyev is the second Party of Regions mayoral candidate to come out on top in closely-watched races. Kharkiv’s city election commission on Nov. 4 announced Party of Regions candidate Hennadiy Kernes beat out Arseniy Avakov for the top spot.

Results of many of the 15,000 local elections held on Oct. 31 are expected to be announced on Nov. 5.
