The parliamentary faction of Ukraine's Party of Regions has said that the Crimean authorities are considering only the possibility of broadening the autonomous republic's rights, not its possible secession from Ukraine.
Party of Regions MP Nestor Shufrych has said that he spoke with Crimean Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Konstantynov over the phone.
“Volodymyr Andriyovych Konstantynov, the speaker of Crimea’s parliament, said that today they are requesting discussions exclusively concerning the possibility of broadening the rights of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. They have been speaking about it for more than a decade,” Shufrych said at a Verkhovna Rada session on Friday.
“They are not asking for anything more. The autonomous republic’s possible secession from our country is completely out of the question,” he added.
