In the local elections in Ukraine on October 31, Regions Party representatives have been elected mayors in 118 towns of regional importance in Ukraine (66.66% of the total number), including 11 as mayors of regional centers.
The party’s press service reported that the party had nominated its candidates for mayors in 156 out of 177 towns of regional importance in Ukraine, winning the elections in 66.66% of their total number.
According to the party’s preliminary data on voting on the lists of political parties in the elections to the Crimean Supreme Council and regional councils, the Regions Party collected from 5.9% of the vote in Lviv region to 65.5% in Donetsk region.
The elections to Ternopil Regional Council and Kyiv City Council were not conducted on October 31.
Party of Regions reports winning 48.7% of the vote in Crimea, 19.9% in Vinnytsia region, 18.8% in Volyn region, 40.5% in Dnipropetrovsk region, 17.7% in Zhytomyr region, 18.2% in Zakarpattia region, 40.1% in Zaporizhia region, 7.8% in Ivano-Frankivsk region, 26.32% in Kyiv region, 33.8% in Kirovohrad region, 56% in Luhansk region, 41.1% in Mykolaiv region, 37.9% in Odesa region, 24.1% in Poltava region, 13.9% in Rivne region, 22.9% in Sumy region, 40.1% in Kharkiv region, 31.9% in Kherson region, 22% in Khmelnytsky region, 24.1% in Cherkasy region, 21.8% in Chernivtsi region, 21.6% in Chernihiv region, and 32% in the elections to the Sevastopol city council.
Each of the 15,000 election commissions presiding over local elections held on Oct. 31 is responsible for announcing the results of the races they presided over, according to Olha Aivazovska, head of the Opora election monitoring group. The stamped final protocols of each race are then forwarded to higher-level commissions, which, in turn, report them to the CEC.
"It’s the same procedure as followed in previous years," said Aivazovska. "Regional election commissions announce the results of votes to regional councils, city election commissions for mayoral races, town and village election commissions for seats on the local council, etc." said Aivazovska.
Andriy Mahera, a member of the 14-member Central Election Commission, on Nov. 8 told the Kyiv Post that the CEC is not in charge of announcing the results of all 15,000 election races.
"This has never been the case. These are local elections and traditionally we don’t do that." Mahera said, adding that the CEC may consider publishing all the results at some latter date.
