You're reading: Polish observers see no violations during elections in Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy regions

Observers from the election observation mission of the Polish Senate who worked in Kharkiv, Poltava and Sumy regions registered no violations during the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, Polish Senator Lukasz Abgarowicz has reported.

“We evaluate the election process in the commissions as very high. We
saw no violation that could influence the result of the elections. All
of the commissions had observers both from the parties and individual
candidates, but rarely from the public organizations. Everywhere the
elections were transparent, and the secrecy of the vote was maintained.
Concerning the places we worked, we can say that the elections were held
fairly and at a high level,” the observer said at the press conference
on Monday.

According to him, he received a few complaints about violations,
mostly from the opposition, but they were not confirmed in any case.

However, another representative of the mission, Polish Senator Janusz
Sepiol, mentioned a case with the turning off of the lights at one of
the polling stations in the region during the vote counting. According
to the senator, it did not influence the vote calculation, but looked
odd.

“For us it’s difficult to believe this was an accident, as the light
turned on, then turned off again, and it happened several times. It
seems to us that this was an attempt at local sabotage of the
elections,” he said.

The observers from the Polish Senate watched the elections process
over three days, including Saturday and Sunday. They visited over 60
commissions, and met with long-term observers and representatives of the
non-governmental organizations who observed the elections.
