Political experts: Composition of half of Ukrainian parliament could change

The composition of the future parliament will be greatly modified, President of the Politics Analytical Center Ihor Popov has said. 

"The update will be about 60% [in single-member districts]. This is a very high figure. The update on party lists will be 35-40%. In general, we are expecting a most serious change in MPs, especially compared with sixth and seventh convocations, when a lot of the current deputies won seats in parliament on lists," he said during an Internet conference in Kyiv on Monday.

Political consultant Denys Bohush said that a peculiarity of the current election campaign was the fact that for every candidate from the government, there would be 20-25 "technical candidates," or candidates running with the covert aim of aiding the election of the government candidate.

He said that during the election campaign in 2010 for each pro-governmental candidate there were about ten technical candidates.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Public Policy Viktor Chumak said that since the last mixed election campaign, Ukraine had lost the know-how and strategists who could effectively hold the elections in single-member constituencies.

He said that candidates running for single-member constituencies had to do a great deal of work to win the support of their own voters.
