You're reading: Poll: Five parties, including Svoboda, could win seats in parliament

The Regions Party, Vitali Klitschko's UDAR Party, the Batkivschyna United Opposition, the Communist Party of Ukraine and the Svoboda Party would win seats in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine if the elections were held in late September, according to a survey conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

The results of the survey were presented at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, Oct. 8.

According to the poll, if parliamentary elections were held in late
September, the five-percent election threshold would be overcome by the
Regions Party (23.3%), the UDAR Party (16%), the Batkivschyna United
Opposition (15.1%), the Communist Party of Ukraine (10.1%), and Svoboda
(5.1%).

Natalia Korolevska’s Ukraine-Forward! Party (2.1%) and Our Ukraine Party (1.3%) would not overcome the 5% threshold.

Sociologists also noted that the percentage of those who have not yet decided on their choice had increased to 24%.

At the same time, 78% of respondents said they were ready to
participate in the vote on Oct. 28, 2012. Some 56.7% of those polled
that they would definitely go to the polls, and 21.3% said they would
most likely participate in the vote. Some 13.9% of respondents said that
they would definitely not go to polling stations on October 28, 3.8%
said they would most likely not participate in the vote, with 4.5% being
undecided.

The survey was conducted from Sept. 18 to Oct. 4 this year in
111 towns and villages in all regions in Ukraine and Crimea. A total of
2,043 respondents were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error does not
exceed 2.2%.
