You're reading: Poll: Klitschko, Yatseniuk Ukraine’s most popular politicians

Opposition leaders Vitali Klitschko, who heads the UDAR party, and Arseniy Yatseniuk, the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction chief, are the most popular politicians in Ukraine, an opinion poll suggests.

Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Razumkov Center said Klitschko enjoyed the complete or partial confidence of 42% of those questioned in their joint survey in May, and that 45.3% of respondents had no trust in him. Yatseniuk’s ratings were 34.2% and 55.9% respectively.

Jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko had a confidence rating of 30% and a no confidence rating of 60.4%.

As mistrust goes, Communist leader Petro Symonenko topped the list with 74.5% mistrusting and 17% trusting him. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was mistrusted by 69.8% and trusted by 22.4%, and President Viktor Yanukovych was trusted by 68.7% and mistrusted by 25%.

The two think tanks said they had questioned 2,010 people throughout Ukraine on May 17-22, and that the findings had a 2.3% margin of error.
