President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said he favors the complete abolition of the immunity for deputies and judges.

“I will strive strongly, with double persistency, for the parliament to vote for the amendments to the Fundamental Law – which we have been waiting for years, decades – regarding the abolition of immunity for deputies and judges,” said Poroshenko on June 28, speaking to the graduates of the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”.

Poroshenko mentioned the situation with the head of the Kyiv Court of Appeals Anton Chernushenko. “I hope that next week the Verkhovna Rada, individually for the present moment, would strip this ‘servant’ of Themis of immunity granting a respective motion of the Prosecutor General’s Office,” he said.

The head of state stressed that “the issue must be addressed in a complex – through the complete abolition of the immunity of deputies and judges.”
