Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised to present a reform program drawn up in collaboration with the European Union and NATO.

“We will present a reform program drawn up in collaboration with the European Union and NATO next week,” Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

The Ukrainian president emphasized the Donbas situation must not be a reason to delay the reforms.

It is important for Ukraine to develop cooperation with NATO, and, for now, this topic is even more significant than accession to the North Atlantic Alliance, he said.

Ukraine needs to accomplish a number of reforms before it raises the question of admission, the Ukrainian president continued.

“This is why we give so much attention to the reform and modernization of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We will develop our defense sector and upgrade it to NATO standards,” Poroshenko said.

Cooperation between Ukraine and NATO will not be limited to security issues, the president said. In his words, the bloc will support Ukraine in the struggle against corruption, the establishment of the supremacy of law and order, and in some other areas.

In the opinion of Poroshenko, the parliamentary election and the renovation of the legislative authorities will also help boost the Ukrainian state’s modernization.
