You're reading: Poroshenko proposes holding governmental meeting in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed holding an offsite meeting of the Cabinet of ministers so that "the government could assess the damage caused in the liberated districts of Donbas," Iryna Heraschenko, the presidential envoy for settling the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, said at a news conference in Kyiv on July 11.

“The president of Ukraine believes that it would be right to hold an offsite government meeting, so that the government members could see by themselves what needs exist now in those districts that the Ukrainian authorities are taking control of and determine the exact damages,” Heraschenko said at a news conference in Kyiv on July 11.

“Because the sums that are being mentioned now are considerably exaggerated,” she said.

The authorities are doing substantial work to raise money, including from Western countries, not only for restoring the infrastructure in Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and other cities but also for launching programs on creating new jobs, she said.
