You're reading: Poroshenko proposes setting up army brigade to be deployed in Severodonetsk

President Petro Poroshenko has proposed setting up an army brigade to be permanently deployed in Severodonetsk, Luhansk region in the east of Ukraine, his spokesman said on Friday evening. 

Poroshenko put forward the proposal when visiting Severodvinsk, the spokesman, Sviatoslav Tseholko, wrote on Twitter.

Tseholko also said Poroshenko had introduced the new governors of Donetsk and Luhansk regions Gen. of the Army Oleksandr Kikhtenko and Hennadiy Moskal, during his stay in eastern Ukraine.

During a visit to Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, earlier on Friday, Poroshenko said he had dismissed Donetsk governor Serhiy Taruta and replaced him with Kikhtenko.

The president had appointed Moskal, a retired police lieutenant general, as Luhansk governor on September 18.
