Ukraine is prepared to sign the full version of an association agreement with the European Union not later than June 27, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
“The president has stated that he is ready to sign an association agreement with the EU as soon as Brussels makes this decision,” the Ukrainian presidential press service reports.
“We should do this not later than June 27 this year,” Poroshenko said at a meeting with the heads of foreign delegations and the diplomatic corps accredited in Ukraine at the Sofia of Kyiv national preserve on Saturday.
Ukraine will be developing as a European state, Poroshenko said. “There is one more European value for me, which is solidarity. Ukraine vitally needs solidarity, and we are grateful to you for support that the world has rendered to the Ukrainians in struggling for independence. Association with the EU, a deep and comprehensive free trade area between Ukraine and the EU, and visa-free travel with the EU constitute my mandate from the voters. The full economic integration and political association with the EU are not just dreams but the agenda for the next few years,” he said.
Modernization based on European standards will be a key to Ukraine’s success, which would help resolve a lot of issues, he said.
Poroshenko thanked the leadership and other officials of the U.S. and European Union for supporting Ukraine in its aspiration for freedom, justice, and European values.
