You're reading: Poroshenko wants world to know who staged provocations outside parliament on Aug. 31

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said it was not just the perpetrators that caused the deaths of three National Guardsmen, as well as wounding one hundred people, but also those who masterminded and supplied weapons for the rally outside the Verkhovna Rada on Aug. 31.

“There are already the first court verdicts that jailed those who laid hands on the Ukrainian servicemen and tried to destabilize the situation in Kyiv and the entire country. Still, I emphasize that both the political operators and organizers of the given crime must also be brought to justice,” Poroshenko said.

He said it is crucial that the investigation is as transparent as possible “for the entire world to know who tried to destabilize the situation and with what purpose.”

Poroshenko described the murder of servicemen in a peaceful city as dreadful and inexcusable.

“The government and society must do everything to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Poroshenko said.

He said that the fallen soldiers will be buried as heroes, with full military honors.

“For Ukrainian society to know that we honor our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and independence of the state,” he said.

Poroshenko added that the escalation took place after the parliamentary vote.

“It was only the first reading. We will carry out mass explanatory work and discussion. The public has been discussing constitutional amendments for a year and will have enough time to clarify everything and refute the lies made up both inside and outside our country to discredit Ukraine, the Ukrainian Constitution and the international coalition, and leave Ukraine alone with its problems,” he said.
