You're reading: President orders preparations for reduction in executive staff

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has issued a decree on bringing the activities of executive agencies into compliance with the constitution adopted in 1996 in connection with the decision of the Constitutional Court dated Sept. 30 2010 to cancel the political reform of 2004 and return to the 1996 constitution.

The Cabinet of Ministers and the leadership of central executive bodies are expected to continue their activities as before using the provisions of the 1996 constitution as guidance, as well as the requirements of other legislative acts that are not in conflict with the 1996 constitution.

The committee for economic reform has been instructed to work out the proposals for streamlining the work of the central authorities, and prepare for a reduction in staff.

Ukraine’s government is to prepare amendments to legislative acts to bring them in compliance with the constitution of 1996 and submit them to the president, who will then pass them to the Verkhovna Rada as urgent legislation.

The decree takes effect on the day it is published.
