 MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with his Finnish colleague Sauli Niinisto discussed the development of the critical situation in Ukraine stressed the need to build up international efforts to promote a political settlement of the domestic conflict, the Kremlin press service reports.

 Putin and Niinisto spoke for immediately launching a thorough international investigation of the MH17 crash under the auspices of ICAO in compliance with the UN Security Council resolution №2166 adopted on July 21.

In this context the task of speedily achieving a ceasefire in the crash area was stressed.

The presidents spoke of the prospects of Russia-EU relations. Attention was also paid to the bilateral agenda.

The conversation was initiated by the Finnish side.
