The Prosecutor General's Office has permitted ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (who held the presidential position from 1994 through 2005) to travel to Moscow, First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin said at a press briefing on Monday.

"Leonid Danylovych Kuchma visited the Main Investigations Department today and received the permission to travel outside Ukraine. I signed the documents and submitted them to the Border Service. There are no travelling restrictions on Kuchma," he said.

He said that Kuchma was granted the permission he had asked for.

"His travelling rights will be limited again upon his return to the home country," he said.

Kuchma said earlier in the day that the detective did not permit him to go to Moscow on a two-day visit for attending celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Yuri Gagarin space flight, but summoned him for more questioning on Tuesday, April 12.
