You're reading: Prosecutor’s office: Police to thoroughly examine actions of protesters on Kyiv ‘Euromaidans’

Public prosecutor's office of Kyiv has assured that all statements and reports of the actions protestors during rallies in Kyiv on Nov. 24-25 in support of European integration will be thoroughly examined.

“As of Nov. 25, police had received 15 applications and reports
about criminal violations,” the press service of the prosecutor’s office
of Kyiv told Interfax-Ukraine.

The service noted that a criminal proceeding regarding a clash
between participants of the rallies and policemen outside the Cabinet of
Ministers on Nov. 24 is being investigated, during which rally
attendees were said to have thrown several smoke bombs at police
officers and sprayed tear gas at the police (Article 342 and 296 of the
Criminal Code of Ukraine).

“Several protesters trying to break through the government’s premises
broke an automatic barrier and caused material harm to the state,” the
office said.

Another criminal case has been opened following opposition from
participants of the rally when two tents were taken down by the police
on Independence Square on Nov. 24.

Besides, the prosecutor’s office also opened a pre-trial inquiry at
the request of MP Andriy Parubiy (Batkivschyna faction) on bodily
injuries he said were caused to him by the police on European Square on
Nov. 25.

“We’re also conducting checks on reports from the media on possible
cases of the hampering of the professional actions of journalists during
the mass events, as well a case of a false bomb threat made against an
aircraft,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
