You're reading: Pshonka: Karpachova’s comments on Tymoshenko had political motivation

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka has stated that former Ukrainian ombudsman Nina Karpachova had political motives in commenting on the situation of alleged beating of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska penal colony.

"I think that behavior of Nina Ivanivna Karpachova obviously had political character, when she commented on this situation," Pshonka said at a press conference on Friday.

According to him, the check of the prosecutor’s office discovered that Karpachova demanded from two experts from the secretariat of the commissioner for human rights an expert conclusion based on photos of the bruised Tymoshenko. Pshonka added that the experts expressed doubts that the photos were real and refused to make expert conclusions on them.

"When these two employees told Karpachova that it is impossible to do so, she said ‘history will never forget you’," the prosecutor general said.

According to Pshonka, Karpachova wanted to receive the expert conclusions to show to the international community.

He also said that the check of the prosecutor’s offices discovered no signs that force had been used against Tymoshenko.

"All this is just fiction and fantasy, including the photos based on which Karpachova made some conclusions, with which she wanted to shock the world," Pshonka said.
