MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde discussed "the financial and economic crisis in Ukraine" in a telephone call on Dec. 29.

“The Russian head of state briefed [Lagarde] on Russian moves to support the
Ukrainian economy by reduced-price exports of Russian energy and via the
mechanisms of the banking community. Hope was stressed that the IMF would
continue to help Ukraine solve serious problems facing that country,” the
Russian president’s office said in a statement.
