You're reading: Rada speaker signs bill on National Police, sends it to president

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Groysman has signed the bill law on the National Police (No. 2822), according to the website of the Ukrainian parliament.

The bill was sent to the president for signature on July 14.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill defining the legal basis for the creation and functioning of the National Police of Ukraine and the status of police officers on July 2.

On July 14, the Verkhovna Rada voted down its draft resolution to revoke the bill.

The law becomes effective three months after the date of its publication, except for certain provisions. In particular, the provisions concerning Kyiv patrol police shall come into effect immediately after publication. The provisions concerning Odesa and Lviv patrol police shall come into force as of Aug. 20, 2015.
