Parliament won't consider the issue of scheduling early elections in Kyiv this week, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak has said.

“Elections in Kyiv won’t be discussed this week, as the leaders of all the factions have to assemble to discuss it,” he told journalists on Monday.

The speaker also said that the issue of Kyiv elections won’t be put to the vote, since there are not enough votes for a positive decision.

“I want that when we approve disputable issues, we don’t just approve and review them, but also vote,” he said.

As reported, according to a Constitutional Court ruling passed on May 29, the next local elections should be held simultaneously all over Ukraine on the last Sunday of October 2015.

However, the opposition has demanded that the Verkhovna Rada set a date for early elections for Kyiv City Council deputies and Kyiv’s mayor.
