Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has responded to an online petition asking him to appoint the Odesa region's Governor Mikheil Saakashvili Ukraine's prime minister.

“The candidate’s personal agreement to take on this post is a necessary condition for launching the aforementioned procedure of appointing the prime minister of Ukraine. However, Saakashvili has not offered any comments on this matter,” Poroshenko said in his reply, which was published on the presidential website on Thursday.

Since on Dec. 11, 2014 the Ukrainian parliament, Verkhovna Rada, approved the program of Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s cabinet, parliament cannot consider the issue of this government’s responsibility until Dec. 11, 2015, the president said.

An online petition seeking Saakashvili’s appointment as the prime minister of Ukraine has been signed by over 31,500 citizens.

It was reported that Saakashvili had earlier said more than once that he would not seek the post of Ukraine’s prime minister.
