You're reading: Social policy expert: Increase in retirement age for women won’t change situation in pension system

Former First Deputy Labor and Social Policy Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko has described the idea of increasing the retirement age for women as unreasonable.

"As an expert, I think that if we want to implement pension reform in Ukraine, then we have to reject the idea of increasing the retirement age for women. It’s obvious that today an increase in the retirement age for women won’t resolve any problems for either women or the Pension Fund balance," he said during a Web conference on the Liga.net portal.

Rozenko said that an increase in the retirement age would not significantly improve the situation in the pension system.

"The government has on numerous occasions stated that it will save only Hr 500 million per annum on this step. Today Pension Fund budget deficit, including state subsidies, amounts to about Hr 60 billion. So, the increase of the retirement age for women is not a resource that could significantly change the situation in the pension system," he said.

The former official said he does not support an increase in the insurance history for men and women by ten years.

"Such a government initiative will only result in a reduction of pensions, as by increasing the compulsory insurance history by ten years, the government cuts a citizen’s average overtime insurance history by ten years, which is minus Hr 75 from each pension," he said.
