You're reading: Speaker Lytvyn: Parliamentary elections were held at acceptable level

Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that Sunday's parliamentary elections in Ukraine were held at an acceptable level and meet accepted standards.

“The elections were generally held at an acceptable level, and they
meet the accepted standards inherent in this procedure,” the
parliament’s press service quoted Lytvyn as saying.

He said that this was favored by the large amount of attention given
to the elections, including from the international community, the
serious competition between the participants in the election campaign
and their mutual oversight, as well as the “position of voters, which
was not always predictable for parties and candidates.”

Lytvyn said that the electoral law that was adopted in parliament as a
result of “political compromise” had significantly helped conduct the
current election campaign properly.
