Ukraine is in a pre-revolutionary state, the leader of the all-Ukrainian Svoboda Union, Oleh Tiahnybok, has said.

"The Ukrainian social revolution is taking place around the whole country. And it’s not only the reaction of Kyiv that’s important. [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych, by his actions, has demonstrated only one thing: that he hasn’t grown higher than the level of a governor," Tiahnybok said at a meeting of the opposition near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday.

"Maybe today we still don’t see a revolutionary situation. But currently we’re seeing a pre-revolutionary situation," he said.

Tiahnybok said that the government is afraid of pressure from society, and that’s why Ukrainians must assess the actions of the government and, first of all, local deputies should do this.

"Those [local deputies] must be in the first lines of meetings," he said, noting the importance of pressure of local councils on the government.

According to him, the parliamentary opposition doesn’t have much power at present, as it has failed to resist the government’s actions, including the agreements with the Russian Federation.

"This parliament is ineffective. Our main call is that new parliamentary elections must be held," Tiahnybok said.
