The question of the unification of the Strong Ukraine Party with the Regions Party is being discussed inside the party, and a final decision is yet to be taken, Strong Ukraine Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Sergiy Tigipko has said on Ukraine's Inter TV Channel.

"We’ve started discussions with our party members. This is not a final decision. We’re discussing such a possibility," the party’s press service quoted Tigipko as saying.

Asked why he initiated the merger, Tigipko said politics implied, first and foremost, ideas and that reform, and the country’s modernization was the main purpose for going into politics. He said that "the rest is personal ambition."

"If the Regions Party did not launch reform and make changes, and I’ve closely monitored this for the last one-and-a-half years, then I would have some doubts about this issue. But I see that the Regions Party is set to conduct reform. And it’s the most important thing for me," Tigipko said.
On August 16, Tigipko initiated the merger of the Strong Ukraine Party and the Regions Party in order to consolidate reform efforts
