You're reading: Tombinski concerned about Russia-Ukraine talks on gas price

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has expressed his concern about possible negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow on a reduction in the price for Russian natural gas.

“If you hope for assistance from external sources of supplies, this
influences your security, because some conditions are always put to you.
That’s why I’m a little concerned about these talks about a possible
decline in the gas price,” he said on Dec. 16 during a discussion
“Post-Vilnius: Diagnostics of National Security.”

He added that the price of Russian gas for Ukraine would never be determined by economic conditions.

“This is a price that is dictated by certain political decisions,” Tombinski said.

He also said that he had never seen any formulas that would substantiate the gas price charged to Ukraine by Russia.
