You're reading: Transdniestrian president, Moldovan PM meet in Germany

Tiraspol - A conference on strengthening confidence-building measures in the Moldovan-Transdniestrian settlement process opened in Rottach-Egern, Bavaria, Germany, on Wednesday. Among the conference participants are Transdniestrian President Yevgeny Shevchuk and Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

 According to the Foreign Ministry of the self-proclaimed Transdniestrian Republic, representatives of the Settlement guarantors (Russia and Ukraine), the mediator (the OSCE), and observers in the negotiation process (the U.AS. and the EU) have been invited to the conference.

At the conference, exert groups will sum up the tentative results of their work, discuss the most vital issues, and work out recommendations on appropriate areas.

Such conferences have become a tradition. In 2010-2011, they were held in the cities of Garmish and Bad-Reichenhall. At the previous conference, a general regulation of expert and working groups on confidence-buildings measures and interaction development was signed. It is a basic document whose provisions industry expert use in their work.

Nina Shtansky, a political representative of Transdniestria in the settlement process and Transdniestrian Foreign Minister, earlier said the main task of the Transdniestrian delegation in Germany is to ensure that Tiraspol’s position is heard, saying it will help achieve practical solutions in the socio-economic sphere that will improve the wellbeing of citizens of Transdniestrian and help protect their rights.
