You're reading: Turchynov: Azarov could resign next after finance minister

The first deputy head of the Batkivschyna Party, Oleksandr Turchynov, has predicted that Prime Minister Mykola Azarov will be next to resign following the resignation of Fedir Yaroshenko as Ukraine's finance minister.

"Yaroshenko’s resignation indicates that nobody in the administration [of the Ukrainian president] is currently afraid of Azarov’s resignation," he said live on Ukrainian television’s Channel 5 late on Wednesday.

When asked whether this means that Azarov’s resignation will be the next, Turchynov said: "Of course."

He said that following the appointment of Valeriy Khoroshkovsky as Ukraine’s finance minister, the ministry’s fiscal, controlling and checking functions would be strengthened.

In addition, he said that in his opinion, the newly appointed minister, as a pro-presidential person, will not focus on Azarov’s position, and as a result destructive processes will develop in the government.
