You're reading: Tymoshenko apologizes to women bombarded with snowballs, called opposition to find guilty

Ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has apologized to MPs from the Regions Party Iryna Horina, Yulia Liovochkina, as well as to president's advisor Maryna Stavniychuk, who were injured by snowballs during civil protest actions.

“On April 2, during a civil protest action, female deputies from the Regions Party were injured. I, as a politician of the opposition camp, on behalf of everybody who is in the opposition, want to apologize to Iryna Horina, Yulia Liovochkina, and Maryna Stavniychuk, who during the civil protest were injured by snowballs thrown by unknown people,” reads the statement from Tymoshenko posted on her personal Web site on Wednesday.

The ex-premier also asked to the united opposition asking it to do everything possible to find those responsible, “for them to at least apologize to these female deputies from the Regions Party.”

“We aren’t similar to those beasts who order women to be hit by police batons at rallies, who use force to throw female deputies out of polling stations and the hospital of Ukrzaliznytsia, or push and drag female journalists and leave them to rot in jail,” Tymoshenko said.

As reported, unknown people bombarded female MPs and president’s advisor with snowballs on Tuesday during a rally outside Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine organized by the opposition.

Kyiv police have opened criminal proceedings according part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on an assault on committed against Regions Party MP Iryna Horina.

As the press service of the main police department of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry in Kyiv reported, Horina appealed to Kyiv police on violence committed against her by unknown participants of the political rally that took place outside the parliament on April 2, 2013.

As the MP reported, about 50 people with posters of the opposition forces ran after her at 4 Shovkovychna Street. Unprovoked, they aggressively started to insult her with strong language, threatened of physical violence and started to throw snow and ice at her. According to Horina, she was injured as a result.

According to the preliminary conclusion of a doctor who examined Horina in a Kyiv hospital, she received a head injury and concussion.
