Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the measure of restraint against her is to be changed to arrest.

"I want to tell you, dear judge… I have currently received a message that they [government representatives] are considering the issue of changing the measure of restraint against me to arrest. That’s why, I think that you will soon receive such an order," she said at a session of the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv on Saturday, which is continuing a preliminary hearing of the gas case against Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko cannot currently leave Kyiv due to a travel ban.

BYT-Batkivschyna faction deputy Volodymyr Yavorivsky, in turn, said that Tymoshenko’s arrest was being prepared, Batkivschyna’s press service reported.

"The behavior of the judge shows that he is nervous and afraid of Tymoshenko’s arguments, and therefore, it cannot be excluded that she might be arrested in order to intimidate her and prevent her from speaking with citizens," he said.
