The parliamentary faction of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (BYT) is planning to initiate the adoption of a resolution cancelling the agreement on the extension of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's presence in Crimea until 2042, BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said.

"Our political force will table in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution that will cancel the agreement signed by [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych," she said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Tymoshenko said that the faction would begin to collect signatures on Thursday to hold an extraordinary parliament session on Saturday in order to consider issues linked to the agreements.

She also called on Ukrainian citizens to gather in front of the Verkhovna Rada on Saturday morning "to prevent the violation of the constitution and national interests."

Tymoshenko described the signed agreements as a flagrant violation of the constitution.

"I want to draw attention to the fact that Article 17 of the constitution has been grossly violated," she said, while describing the agreements.

Tymoshenko also called on the leaders of all opposition political parties to begin drafting an agreement on the protection of Ukraine’s national interests.

She said that information campaign aimed at revising gas contracts "was a cover for the conclusion of respective agreements on the Black Sea Fleet."
