You're reading: Tymoshenko not allowed to visit Brussels

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has not allowed Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko to visit Brussels.

"My request to let me go to Brussels to meet with the leadership of the European Union and the leadership of the European People’s Party was rejected," she told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In her opinion, the motivation of the Prosecutor General’s Office is "very strange."

"An invitation I received is in English, and they [Prosecutor General’s Office employees] don’t understand what it is about," she added.

Tymoshenko noted that she would submit a petition on this matter to the prosecutor’s office and translate the text of the invitation into Ukrainian.

Tymoshenko earlier received two invitations to visit Brussels in early February this year. In particular, she was invited to visit the headquarters of the European People’s Party (from Jan. 31 to Feb. 4) and also speak at events to mark the 50th anniversary of the European Democrat Students association (Feb. 1).

Tymoshenko was earlier banned from travelling outside Kyiv.
