Batkivschyna party leader Yulia Tymoshenko greets compatriots on the occasion of the Constitution Day.

"Ukrainian nation has the right to be proud of glorious constitutional traditions. Our Hetman Pylyp Orlyk wrote the first Ukrainian Constitution in 1710. The basics of European democracy were formed in Ukraine, ideas of sovereignty of the people and observation of rights and freedoms of citizens were established," reads a greeting posted on the Tymoshenko’s Web site on Tuesday.

"The Constitution is a symbol of law. Unfortunately, the incumbent president believes that the Constitution of Ukraine is a door-mat. According to the Constitution, power holder is people, and our civil society should prove authorities that this statement is not mere words, but an axiom for everyone without exception," reads the greeting.

Tymoshenko said that the regulations of the Constitution are requirements of direct effect, and authorities are to observe them.

"We should protect the Constitution so it protects each of us in the future. I wish you confidence, faith and joy," reads the posting.
