Chairman of the Council of the Batkivschyna United Opposition Arseniy Yatseniuk and members of the council Anatoliy Hrytsenko, Serhiy Sobolev, Borys Tarasiuk and Viacheslav Kyrylenko and others intend to visit on Sunday Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv, where convicted former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is the leader of the Batkivschyna Party, is undergoing treatment.
“They will come to express their support for opposition leader Yulia
Tymoshenko on the anniversary of her unlawful arrest,” the press service
of Kharkiv regional branch of Batkivschyna Party told Interfax-Ukraine.
On October 11, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv found Tymoshenko
guilty of abusing power during the preparation of instructions for gas
negotiations with Russia in 2009.
Tymoshenko was imprisoned for seven years. This term starts from
August 5, 2011, when the premier was arrested in the court hall.
The defense team has repeatedly stated that Tymoshenko had health
problems even during her stay in Kyiv’s pre-trial detention center, and
demanded that she be examined by independent doctors, because Tymoshenko
does not trust Ukrainian doctors. On May 9, Tymoshenko was moved from
the prison to Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv. The procedures
for the ex-premier’s treatment in hospital have been selected by German
doctors from the Charite Clinic.
The State Penitentiary Service said on August 2 the number of visits
to Tymoshenko hospital will be limited in accordance with the
recommendations of German and Ukrainian doctors.
