You're reading: Tymoshenko’s position on participation in trial recorded by video cameras

The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has posted on its Web site two video recordings in order to prove that jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko refuses to talk to Kachanivska Penal Colony Chief Ihor Kolpaschykov about her participation in the court hearing of the criminal case on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation.

On one of the video recordings Kolpaschykov proposes that Tymoshenko be taken to a Kharkiv court and on the second one he asks the ex-premier to read the document confirming her refusal to be transported to the courtroom.

On the video Tymoshenko sits on the chair with her back to Kolpaschykov and without listening to him repeats all the time that all video recordings will be falsified afterwards.

“I am saying once again that all video recordings made in this ward in the presence of the prison chief will be falsified afterwards and passed to television channels in the falsified and assembled form,” she said.

“You must act according to the law,” Tymoshenko repeats on the video.

At the same time, the State Penitentiary service stressed that the video recordings had not been tampered with, as there are no breaks and no signs of editing in the recording.

“Such behavior of the convict cannot be interpreted in other way than her reluctance to be transported and participate in the court hearing, despite her own statement on March 4,” reads the prison service’s statement.

“The State Penitentiary Service does not violate any rights of Tymoshenko and is not going to use force against her,” reads the statement.

The prison service also explained that it has to make video recordings of conversations with the convict to avoid Tymoshenko’s provocations against the service and any other accusations.

“The State Penitentiary Service will continue to make video recordings during conversations with convict Tymoshenko, as it does not have other means to prevent the appearance of false reports about the service’s work,” reads the statement.

As reported, the court has announced a break until 14:30 on March 5 in the hearing of the criminal case on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine Corporation due to the absence of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
