The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has refused to appoint presidential nominee Valeriy Karpuntsov as a member of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to replace Anatoliy Pysarenko, who was dismissed earlier.

A total of 152 MPs voted on Thursday evening for Karpuntsov’s appointment as a CEC member, with 226 votes needed to approve the appointment.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Central Election Commission (CEC) member Anatoliy Pysarenko on January 19.

Kyiv’s Administrative Court of Appeals earlier satisfied in full a demand to reinstate Pysarenko as a CEC member. However, last spring Pysarenko reached the age of 65, which is the maximum age for CEC members according to the Constitution of Ukraine.
