Yalta, September 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Ukrainian opposition has agreed to declare a temporary truce with the authorities as Ukraine prepares to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union, Batkivshchyna opposition faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk said.

“You and I, Viktor Fedorovych, now have a temporary truce,” he told Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on the sidelines of Yalta European Strategy meeting on Friday, calling on him to sort out the situation with the country’s former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

The president, for his part, said that the gas deals signed by Tymoshenko had cost Ukraine $20 billion.

Yanukovych also said that this issue should be tackled in accordance with the law and with the help of the courts and Tymoshenko herself.

UDAR opposition party leader Vitali Klitschko asked the president whether he was be prepared to step down if the Association Agreement was not signed.

The Ukrainian opposition shares responsibility for this document as well, Yanukovych said.
