Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Hroisman expects that a political decision on granting Ukrainian citizens visa-free access to the EU for short-stay visits would be made at an Eastern Partnership summit in Riga on May 21-22.

“We hope that a political decision on visa-free travel with Ukraine will be made at the Riga summit,” Hroisman said at a joint news briefing with Latvian Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece in Kyiv on Friday.

Ukraine has done everything it was supposed to for this to happen and “relies on support in this issue from Latvia and all colleagues from the European Union,” he said.

Murniece said that, while the matter would be discussed at the Riga summit, it is impossible now to say what the decision will be.

The Eastern Partnership summit in Riga is scheduled for May 21-22.
