Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law on the appointment of Viktor Pshonka as prosecutor general of Ukraine.

The document has been posted on the president’s Web site.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada approved Viktor Pshonka’s appointment as prosecutor general at its meeting on Thursday. A total of 292 MPs voted for this decision.

The Ukrainian president dismissed Oleksandr Medvedko as prosecutor general on November 3, as his five-year term had expired.

On the same day, Yanukovych submitted to parliament deputy prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka’s nomination to the post.

According to the constitution, the president puts forward a candidate for prosecutor general, and the Verkhovna Rada approves the nominee.
