U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed her support for Ukraine's imprisoned former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the Batkivschyna Party on Saturday.

The statement notes that U.S. Ambassador-at-Large Melanne Verveer announced this at a meeting with the ex-premier’s daughter, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, and Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna Party Hryhoriy Nemyria.

“We will not stop until Tymoshenko and other political prisoners in Ukraine are freed,” the party’s press service quoted the ambassador as saying.

Verveer expressed Clinton’s support for the ex-premier and said that the U.S. secretary of state “expressed hope that in the near future she will be able to personally meet with Tymoshenko,” and expressed her concern about the ex-premier’s health.

The ambassador also said that the United States shared a negative assessment by OSCE international observers of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
