Uzhgorod Mayor Serhiy Ratushnyak, a candidate in Ukraine's presidential election scheduled for Jan. 17, issued a press release on Dec. 30 calling on President Victor Yushchenko to declare war on Somali.

"It can’t continue this way," Ratushnyak said, referring to the taking hostage of more Ukrainian sailors by Somali pirates.

"We must defend our fellow Ukrainians, no matter where they are and no matter who is holding them ranson. We should regard each attack on a Ukrainian as an attack on the whole country. And this is why I think that we should declare war on Somali," the statement says.

In a similar diatribe, Ratushnyak says Americans should atone for killing native indians before meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
