In the near future, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider creating a Constitutional Reform Committee, according to the acting justice minister of Ukraine and member of a task force on political crisis settlement, Olena Lukash.

“In the near future, parliament will consider the issue of creating a temporary special committee on constitutional reform, which will include the representatives from all the Verkhovna Rada factions,” reads a statement by Lukash posted on the presidential Web site on Thursday.

“Its objective will be to prepare the amendments to the Ukrainian Constitution, which will balance out branches of government and introduce the parliamentary-presidential system. All the negotiating parties realize that the Constitution is to be amended only in a constitutional way.

“Yet again we confirm our desire for peaceful settlement of the situation and dialogue,” the acting minister said.

“We disapprove of any expression of violence and unlawful actions, and urge to refrain from military actions and encouraging confrontation.”

One of the opposition’s demands is a return to the 2004 constitution.
